On Sunday, 16 Iyar 5786 — May 3, 2026 — a special gathering was held in Kishinev to elect the Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova.
Following a vote by the serving rabbis of Moldova, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Axelrod shlit”a was elected to serve as Chief Rabbi of Moldova.
Rabbi Axelrod, a fourth-generation member of a distinguished rabbinic dynasty and a shliach of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, has dedicated his life to strengthening Jewish life in Moldova through Jewish education, acts of kindness, Jewish identity, and care for every Jew.
Together with his wife and their children, Rabbi Axelrod continues to work tirelessly to develop and deepen Jewish life throughout the country, with a mission of spreading Torah, mitzvot, Ahavas Yisroel, light, and goodness.
We wish Rabbi Axelrod great success in this important mission, and we look forward to a new chapter of growth, unity, and spiritual strengthening for the entire Jewish community of Moldova.
