On the 5th of Tevet (December 9th, 2021), a festive farbrengen was held in the Chabad Lubavitch Synagogue in honor of the great day of “Didan Notzach”, which is celebrated by Chasidim all over the world in memory of the return of the return of the stolen books from the Agudas Chassidei Chabad Library in 1985. This day is declared by the Rebbe Menachem-Mendel Schneerson as the “Day of the Holy Books.”
The holiday dates back to late 1986/early 1987 and is associated with the struggle of Jews to preserve the unique collection of Jewish books everywhere.
After one of the pseudo-heirs of the Rebbe declared that all the books in the Rebbe’s library belonged to him and that he was the only real heir to the previous Rebbe, the leadership of the Agudas Chassidei Chabad organization filed a lawsuit for the urgent return of the holy books to their rightful owner.
The trial lasted less than three weeks. The Chasidim looked forward to the outcome of the dispute with impatience and prayer. The 40-page verdict was delivered by Federal Judge Charles Sifton. The last words of his opinion concluded that the library cannot be considered the private property of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, but it is the property of the entire Hasidic community. Therefore, there is no right to an inheritance of any individual.
Therefore, the library was returned to the Agudas Chassidei Chabad organization, which is officially a representative of the Chabad Lubavitch movement.
So this day has become a celebration of the long-awaited victory of the Chasidim. This gives us faith that the Jews are deserving of the coming of the Moshiach now!
