At a large bris milah ceremony at the Great Synagogue in Kishinev, the baby son of the Montan family, who are part of the local Chabad community, was circumcised. Present at the ceremony were members of the Jewish community, leaders of various Jewish organization, Israeli students, and many local students from the Moldova School of Medicine.
The Chief Rabbi of Moldova Rabbi Zalman Abelsky was given the honor of being the baby’s sandak (godfather). A mohel flew in especially from Israel to perform the circumcision on the eighth day of the baby’s life, bringing him into the covenant of Abraham. It was also the beginning of the month of Adar, a very happy time in the Jewish calendar.
