Bar-Mitzva in the Capital
A great event has been celebrated with a special solemnity in the family of the president of the society of Jewish mountain people in the Moldova Republic – Miss Alexandra (Shabtaya) Hanucaeva – the bar-mitza of her son Afraim.
Mr. Krakow visited Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, the Rabbi of Chisinau and Moldova, with whom he talked about the position of the religious society HABAD-LIUBAVICH within the state. The discussion took place in a warm and friendly air with the great mutual understanding of both parties.

In the capital of Moldova, Avigdor Liberman, Vice-Premier of Israel and native of Chisinau came from Israel for a private visit. In the Jewish campus KEDEM, he met with activists of the local Jewish community who wanted news about their native country from first-hand sources. At the beginning, the honorable guest made a capacious and brilliant opening speech.

My Jewish Hero is my Saba. In 1990 at the fall of Communism in Russia, the Lubavitcher Rebbe gave my Saba a bracha to go to Kishinev, Moldova to rebuild the Jewish community. The Rebbe added a unique power for my Saba to be able to give brochos to other people. My Saba at that time was not young.
On December 19th, a festive concert “The Lights of Chanuckah”, sanctified to this splendid holiday, took place in the Kishinev theatre named after Chekhov.

This week MK Michael Gorolovsky (Likud), who was born in Kishinev, Moldova, was the honored guest of the local Chabad community.
On 9th Nissan, 5663 [1903], over fifty Jews were murdered, Shuls were looted, and sifrei Torah were desecrated in the Moldovan capital, Kishinev. It took the Jews of Kishinev many years to get over the after-effects of this terrible pogrom.
I found out one fall morning that I would be traveling to Kishinev, Moldova to visit eleven children’s hospitals. I was participating in a program called “Gift of Hope” with a local humanitarian aid organization.
They look like a picture-perfect family — Moshe standing next to his wife Luba, who is holding the cutest little baby in her arms. Just looking at them you could never imagine the long and arduous story they carry with them.
